Unified Under the Dome

Grape Creek Middle School was highlighted by the House Representatives during Special Olympics Day March 5th. Athletes and Unified Champion Schools from across Texas gathered at the State Capitol in Austin to advocate for Unified Sports & Activities and other Special Olympics Texas programs with lawmakers and their staff.

All campuses in Grape Creek ISD are Unified Champion Schools. One of our Unified Robotics pairs (Elaina Olson; Presley Rowland) had the incredible opportunity to meet with Representative Drew Darby. They shared how the Unified program has positively impacted their lives, showcasing the power of inclusion and teamwork.

members please take your conversations outside the rail and give Mr Bucy your attention the chair recognizes Mr Bucy for a recognition thank you Mr Speaker and members uh I hope you'll consider joining me up here if you look up in the gallery today is Special Olympics day at the Texas Capitol if special Olympians want to stand up we'd love to recognize you show your power here at your building thank you all members Special Olympics Special Olympics is committed to the mission of providing year-round Sports training and the athletic competition and then a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness demonstrate courage and participate in a sharing of gifts skills and friendship with their families other athletes and the community special Olympic Texas serves over 60,000 athletes has over 26 athletic disciplines has over 230 annual competitions and almost 7300 volunteers from across the state if there's a sport you like Special Olympics probably has a competition for it and you probably have a connection to an athlete parent coach or volunteer with us today we have several schools rep represented including Veterans Memorial Early College High School Hannah High School Southwest High School Hendrickson's High School Lone Star Elementary Hitchcock High School Brazil sport High School Nimitz High School love it Cooper High School Grape Creek Middle School Wy High School re Rivera Early College High School Friendship High School and Ula High School goal also we have in the gallery the board chairman Pete carry and CEO Tim Martin with us today as well as staff of Special Olympics and they're always amazing Partners many members of law enforcement with them today as well Mr Speaker and members please take a moment to help me welcome special Olympic Tech Texas to the Texas House of Representatives welcome to your house thank you so much thank you Mr Speaker
